Associate Dean’s Welcome
Philip L. Cochran, Associate Dean
As I begin my tenure as the Associate Dean for Indianapolis Programs of IU’s Kelley School of Business I am very excited. The Kelley School of Business ranks among the nation’s top twenty business schools. We find ourselves in an enviable position -- physically located in the vibrant heart of Indiana’s business community. Our possibilities are truly limitless. I look forward to capitalizing on these advantages and continuing the work of my predecessor, Roger Schmenner, in making Kelley one of the solid pillars of our region’s economy.
The Kelley School continues to move forward on a number of exciting fronts. This fall we expanded our Evening MBA program into Carmel with an outstanding class of 44 students. Our new entering class including our downtown and Carmel students now exceeds 100 students. We expect that over the next several decades these students will join their predecessors in senior leadership ranks of this region.
One of my research interests is corporate citizenship, the civic responsibility of businesses to the communities they serve. In that vein, I believe that business schools have a duty to support the private sector as well – after all, our School and our students benefit from a thriving economy with a variety of career opportunities.
That’s why the Kelley School of Business Indianapolis has been a strong partner with companies here. Our world class faculty and students are working with local firms on issues ranging from information security and supply chain management to corporate strategy and international joint ventures. Alliances with organizations like the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Venture Center (among others) put us in a position to help these businesses succeed while giving our students valuable real-world experience.
In our faculty, students and alumni, I see the Kelley School of Business as a major supplier of the intellectual capital that fuels growth in today’s economy. I look forward to continuing the wonderful relationships we already have here in Greater Indianapolis, and building many new ones. Thank you for this gracious welcome, and I look forward to working with you.
