A career in finance opens doors to a wide variety of opportunities, here in Indiana, across the country, and around the world. From financial consulting to investment banking, from broker to banker to business analyst, the career possibilities are broad and deep.
Because of our location in Indiana’s economic center, Kelley finance students are recruited early and vigorously, often landing internships as early as their sophomore year. And many students turn those internships into full-time positions at corporations, banks, financial advising firms, brokerage firms, and insurance companies.
What is the job outlook for finance majors?
Take a look at any top 10 list for promising, well-paid, and high-growth jobs, and you’ll find finance near the top. In fact, finance lands the number one position on the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ 2012 Job Outlook—above computer and information scientists and engineers.
Financial advisors are especially in demand as corporations and people seek help with taxes, investments, and insurance.
To apply some numbers for the number savvy, according to the Atlantic and the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook: by 2018, the number of personal financial advisors is expected to increase by more than 60,000, a 30 percent growth from 2008 and triple the national average of job growth rate of 10.1 percent.
