Mentoring

Programs of the Women's MBA Alumni Advisory Board

The Women’s MBA Advisory Board Mentoring Program is a program designed to give the women MBA students the opportunity to be mentored by former women MBA students who are currently serving on the advisory board.

The years of experience and achievement that the advisory board members have to offer provides an invaluable opportunity for the women MBA students. They can provide insight on topics ranging from work/life balance to leadership and career opportunities and challenges.

Professional Development Collaboration / SophWiki Groups

The program is purposefully designed to emphasize small scale interaction, enable efficient use of scarce time, and endow mentors with an ability to be flexible and innovative. A mentor is matched with 3-4 Evening MBA students in a sophwiki group. Wiki is a technology term that implies free knowledge made available for the benefit of all users. Soph is a greek root that means wise. Together, sophwiki implies the collaborative construction of wisdom and good judgment. This term summarizes the intended goal of this mentoring process.

These groups are matched through the efforts of the Enterprise Directors and are run on a formal schedule dictated each semester. To become a SophWiki mentor, please contact Janea Marking at jmarking@iupui.edu.

Informal Mentoring Program

The program is simple and flexible. To get started, simply complete an application form and send it to: wmbaa@iupui.edu. Students will then be matched with an advisory board member within 30 days. Students will be provided with the contact information so that you may contact their mentor.

The program has no pre-determined frequency or duration. This is determined between the student and the mentor. You could decide to meet for lunch once a month, e-mail each other, etc. The Advisory Board has prepared a one-page guideline to help you get the most from your mentoring.
