Course Descriptions

Within these course descriptions is a listing of courses generally available for MSA students. Course offerings for each semester can be found in the Schedule of Classes located on the registrar's website at http://www.registrar.iupui.edu/ and Onestart http://www.onestart.iu.edu/. As you review these courses and prepare your schedule, take note of the following:

  • F523, M501, P501, J501, G511, G512 and S555 are core courses for the MBAs and are normally reserved for MBAs only. However, if you have not completed the prerequisite courses and are interested in taking the graduate versions of the required prerequisite, this normally can be arranged. Check with the MSA advisor.
  • If you have completed an undergraduate degree in accounting, you generally are not permitted to take the graduate version of accounting courses that you completed as part of your undergraduate program (e.g., A514 Auditing, A515 Taxation, A511 Intermediate Accounting II, and others). Note that duplicate courses are not counted twice for purposes of CPA exam eligibility.
  • If you have completed the prerequisites in finance, marketing, operations, and economics, the graduate courses above (F523, M501, P501, J501, G511, G512 and S555) cannot be completed for MSA program credit. Note that S504 may be completed in lieu of S555. Courses identified in the Schedule of Classes as Kelley Direct MBA courses (online MBA) are normally not available to MSA students (e.g., T575, T577).
  • If you have completed the prerequisites to get in the MSA program, you may take any MSA (BUPA Business Professional Accountancy) course and any MBA course (BUS Business) other than the MBA core. You may also take courses in other schools within the university such as the School of Law, School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Center for Philanthropy, Computer Science, Engineering and Technology, etc.
  • If you have a question about a particular course, do not hesitate to ask whether you can take it for credit.

Other graduate business courses shown in the Schedule of Classes and Graduate Bulletin are available to both MBA and MSA students. Also check https://www.onestart.iu.edu/ for courses offered in Indianapolis under BUPA and BUS.
