Learning in a Professional Environment (LIPE)
A unique part of the curriculum is a course referred to as Learning in a Professional Environment (LIPE). The genesis of this course came from the strong belief that students' academic experiences are greatly enriched when they and their fellow students are actually working in the field in which they are studying. For this reason, the MSA program allows students to earn up to three hours of credit for work experience they obtain while in the program.
The Kelley School of Business will assist those not currently working in accounting to find internships. To enhance the academic value of these work experiences, the course also requires students to attend select workshops devoted to examining and evaluating students' work experiences as well as important nontechnical skills demanded of accountants in their professional lives.
These workshops will examine a variety of topics such as leadership, ethics, time management, supervisory and mentoring skills, customer service and service quality, managing client relations, communications skills, and community service.
