We believe an important part of a business education is learning to work with a diverse group of people—people from all different backgrounds and experiences. At Kelley, we are actively seeking to increase the number of underrepresented minorities and women in our undergraduate and graduate programs to not only provide more opportunities to these students but also to enhance the learning experience for everyone. We also provide numerous support programs and student organizations for underrepresented minorities, women, LGBTQ+, and international students.
Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, I felt like I had to represent black people. I was so focused on beating the odds and proving to everyone that I could succeed, and I didn’t focus on what I was passionate about. When I came to college, I was able to let that go and find out who I really was. Now I focus on the influence I want to have on the world.Maya Caine, BS'18
Traditions That Build Momentum for Diversity
When we talk about promoting diversity at Kelley, we talk about diversity of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, birthplace, religion, and experiences. Everyone deserves a place at the table, and we partner with companies who feel the same way. Many of our hiring companies have invested in our diversity and inclusion programs because they want to ensure a diverse pool of future employees.Idalene F. “Idie” Kesner, Dean. Frank P. IUPUI Culture Centers
At Kelley, I was able to accept myself as gay for the first time after having many discussions with a fellow classmate going through the same realization. Since then, I realized that being your true authentic self at school and in professional business settings is encouraged by most companies today.Tanner Snider, BS'18, Business Analyst, McKinsey & Company
