International economics and finance can seem a world away from modern U.S. healthcare, but Cathy Bonser-Neal says global forces regularly impact the industry.
"Healthcare is an increasing share of our gross domestic product, as it is in other countries," says Bonser-Neal. "International finance can influence our healthcare through funding mechanisms while global macroeconomic trends are impacting the production and the costs of the medical devices and pharmaceuticals used in our healthcare system"
Government policy also plays a large role in influencing American healthcare. An expert in international economics and international finance, Bonser-Neal has had experience in public policy. As a former research economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Bonser-Neal researched international economies and provided insight to the Fed bank president in preparation for the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy meetings.
